While artfully dodging raindrops (it drizzled for about 3 or 4 minutes with no warning today!!!) We completed staining the deck today. Below are several pictures of the completed project as it dries in the hot afternoon sun. We'll touch up a few boards tomorrow, and then move everything back onto the deck probably on Thursday.
We decided that if sweat equity adds value to a house, that by staining the deck on the 2 hottest days of the year so far meant that we added a lot of sweat... and value... to the house!
Holly did a tremendous job helping out, and we managed to keep the stain from going anywhere but on the deck :-). All-in-all, a successful project. Click the various pictures below for a closer view of the deck.

Wow, it looks incredible. The two of you have taken a nice home and turned it into an awesome one. Its nice to see you take such pride in it.

The deck looks great. After all of the home improvement activites you and Holly have tackled during your short retirement you both will be ready to go back to work. (in the air conditioning!) Now enjoy the rest of your vacation, you've earned it!
Love,
Mom
We have absolutely LOVED our short retirement. It's allowed us to work on all of the projects we've had to put off over the last couple of months... lots of home improvement and cleaning chores, as well as finally getting everything in order for Holly's internship. It's been a great experience! I'm almost afraid to go back to work!!! I'm sure I'll be able to transition back into it cleanly though.
I used Behr weatherproofing stain in a Natural Cedar color. Here is a link to the Behr website where my stain is talked about:
