Two Space Shuttles Passing on a Thursday Morning...

Holly was a good sport as we took a day off work, sent the girls off to daycare early, and trekked down to the Smithsonian's Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum outside of Dulles Airport outside of Washington, DC. We got there early for an up-front view of the unveiling of Discovery and the transfer ceremony of Discovery from NASA to the Smithsonian. As a part of the transfer, the Space Shuttle Enterprise (an atmospheric test shuttle) is leaving the possession of the Smithsonian to fly to New York's Intrepid Air and Space Museum on Monday. After remarks from the NASA Administrator and an unbelievably spry and sharp John Glenn and for a few hours this afternoon, the Space Shuttles stood nose-to-nose under a wonderfully sunny Spring sky for public displays. Also seated on the stage with Glenn and NASA Administrator Bolden (who himself flew on Discovery), were many former Space Shuttle Discovery Commanders. What an amazing experience--well worth the trip! Enjoy the pictures below!
